It seems that in society today we constantly receive the message that we are not enough and we tend to seek outside sources to manage these feelings of deficiency. We might use substances, grains or food to cope. I have worked with people on their wellness journeys over the years and have heard first-hand the difficulties and insecurities that someone feels when they wear their perceived deficiencies as excess weight. I know how difficult it is to start a wellness or weight loss journey and feel discouraged when behavior change seems overwhelming.
I have also seen people lose large amounts of weight only to gain it back and experience feelings of failure. Behavior and lifestyle change are not easy and that is where our weight loss program can help you.
If you’ve tried everything to slim down and haven’t had success, there is hope. Weight loss is much more than calorie or macro counting, obesity is a very complex disease that carries a lot of stigma even for medical providers, I have had clients go to their doctor only to be told they need to lose weight and are sent on their way.
Obesity is not only about the number on the scale, there are mental and emotional components, as well as genetic and environmental. Losing weight is difficult on its own, and even more challenging without the knowledge and expertise of a professional specially trained in weight management.
Regarding supplements, medications, and treatment protocols, I like to research all the risks and benefits. I also have an aversion to trendy protocols, and anyone who has worked with me previously knows this. Semaglutide is a relatively new treatment developed in 2012, and to be honest, all the risks or benefits associated with this are not yet known because long-term studies have not been done, it just has not been around long enough.
However, the risks associated with being overweight or obese are known. Today, more than 2/3 adults are considered overweight or obese in the United States, and carrying excess weight can increase your risk of conditions like type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and heart disease. It also increases your risk of depression, making it even more difficult to feel motivated to make changes.
We use a medication called semaglutide to help you get through the overwhelm of getting started so that you can start to see the success that helps you find the motivation to continue.
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 agonist or a Glucagon like peptide that is released naturally in our gut. This will help the pancreas release the right amount of insulin to help the body utilize our foods for energy. This medication will also suppress the appetite and will make your body feel fuller with smaller amounts of food.
Studies have shown that using Semaglutide with lifestyle changes have been most effective in weight loss and keeping the weight off. Semaglutide is a once weekly injection and you will be monitored closely and you will see me monthly to manage the medication dosing.
